Flaky Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
1 cup buttermilk
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda until well combined.
3. Cut in the Butter:
Add the cold butter pieces to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized butter pieces.
4. Add the Buttermilk:
Pour in the buttermilk and gently stir with a spoon or spatula until the dough just comes together. Do not overmix.
5. Knead and Fold:
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat it into a rectangle, then fold it in half. Repeat this process 2–3 times to create layers.
6. Cut the Biscuits:
Roll or pat the dough to about ¾-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or a floured cup to cut out biscuits. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, slightly touching each other for soft sides or spaced apart for crispier edges.
7. Bake:
Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
8. Serve:
Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve warm with butter, honey, or your favorite jam!
