Long John Silver’s Batter Recipe


A crispy, light batter just like the famous fried fish and chicken!


Ingredients:


¾ cup all-purpose flour


2 tablespoons cornstarch


¼ teaspoon baking soda


¼ teaspoon baking powder


1 teaspoon salt


1 teaspoon sugar


1 teaspoon onion powder (optional)


½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)


¾ cup cold water



Instructions:


1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar, and optional seasonings.



2. Gradually add the cold water, whisking until smooth.



3. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 365°F (185°C).



4. Dip fish or chicken into the batter, letting excess drip off.



5. Fry until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes per side, depending on thickness.



6. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
