Classic Patty Melt Recipe
Servings: 2
Ingredients:
½ lb ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon butter (for onions)
4 slices rye bread (or sourdough)
4 slices Swiss or American cheese
2 tablespoons butter (for bread)
Instructions:
1. Caramelize the Onions:
Melt 1 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and soft. Set aside.
2. Make the Patties:
Divide the ground beef into two thin, oval-shaped patties (to fit the bread).
Season both sides with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Cook in a skillet over medium-high heat for about 3-4 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through. Remove from the pan.
3. Assemble the Patty Melts:
Place a slice of cheese on one slice of bread.
Add a cooked beef patty, then top with caramelized onions and another slice of cheese.
Place the second slice of bread on top.
4. Grill the Sandwiches:
Melt 1 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Add the sandwiches and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, pressing slightly with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted.
5. Serve and Enjoy!
Slice in half and serve hot with a side of fries or pickles.
