Scalloped Potatoes



Scalloped Potatoes 

Ingredients


4 cups potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 4 medium potatoes)


2 tbsp butter


2 tbsp all-purpose flour


1 ½ cups milk


1 cup shredded cheddar cheese


½ cup grated Parmesan cheese


1 tsp salt


½ tsp black pepper


½ tsp garlic powder (optional)


½ tsp onion powder (optional)


½ tsp paprika (for color)



Instructions


1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.



2. Prepare the sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute until slightly golden.



3. Add milk slowly, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook until thickened (about 2-3 minutes).



4. Stir in cheeses, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Remove from heat once melted and smooth.



5. Assemble: Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over them. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and sauce.



6. Bake uncovered for 50-60 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.



7. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
