HAMBURGER STEAKS WITH ONION GRAVY


Ingredients:


For the Hamburger Steaks:


1 lb ground beef


1/3 cup breadcrumbs


1 egg


1/2 tsp garlic powder


1/2 tsp onion powder


Salt & black pepper, to taste


1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce


1 tbsp oil (for frying)



For the Onion Gravy:


1 large onion, thinly sliced


2 cups beef broth


1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce


1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)


Salt & pepper, to taste


Optional: 1 tbsp butter (for richer flavor)

Instructions:


1. Make the Patties:

In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4 oval patties.



2. Cook the Patties:

Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear patties for about 4–5 minutes per side until browned (they don’t need to be fully cooked yet). Remove and set aside.



3. Make the Onion Gravy:

In the same skillet, add sliced onions and sauté until soft and golden (about 10 minutes). Stir in beef broth and Worcestershire. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.



4. Thicken the Gravy:

Stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.



5. Simmer Together:

Return patties to the skillet. Cover and let simmer in the gravy for about 10 minutes, or until patties are cooked through.



6. Serve:

Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
