 Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion, and Garlic


Savory Southern Fried Cabbage with Crispy Bacon and Aromatic Garlic


Recipe


Ingredients:


1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped


6 slices of bacon, chopped


1 medium yellow onion, chopped


4 cloves garlic, minced


2 tablespoons butter


Salt and pepper to taste


1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)


1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)


Directions:


In a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove bacon and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pan.


Add butter to the bacon fat, then sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent (about 5 minutes).


Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1–2 minutes until fragrant.


Add the chopped cabbage to the pan and toss well to coat it in the fat and aromatics.


Season with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir occasionally while cooking.


Continue to cook for 12–15 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.


Stir the crispy bacon back into the pan just before serving.
