Amish Hamburger Steak Bake Recipe
Ingredients:
1½ lbs ground beef
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
½ cup milk
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 cups mashed potatoes (homemade or instant)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Mix and form patties:
In a bowl, combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
Form into 4–6 flat patties.
3. Brown the patties:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned (they don’t need to be cooked through). Remove and set aside.
4. Sauté onions:
In the same skillet, cook sliced onions until soft and slightly golden.
5. Make the sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, milk, and Worcestershire sauce.
6. Assemble the bake:
Spread a thin layer of the soup mixture on the bottom of a greased 9x13 baking dish.
Place the hamburger patties in the dish.
Top each patty with sautéed onions.
Pour the remaining soup mixture evenly over everything.
7. Add mashed potatoes:
Spoon mashed potatoes over the top, spreading to cover the patties and sauce.
8. Top with cheese:
Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
9. Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top.
10. Garnish with parsley, if desired. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
🧡 Serving Tip:
Serve with green beans, buttered corn, or a crisp side salad for a complete Amish-style dinner.
