🍒 CHERRY BARS RECIPE
Ingredients:
For the bars:
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract (optional but delicious)
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
For the glaze (optional):
1 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp milk
1/2 tsp vanilla or almond extract
---
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 15x10-inch jelly roll pan (or 9x13 for thicker bars).
2. Cream butter and sugar together in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla and almond extract.
4. Stir in flour and salt until just combined.
5. Spread about 2/3 of the batter into the prepared pan. The batter will be thick—use a spatula to evenly spread it.
6. Spoon the cherry pie filling evenly over the batter.
7. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the cherry filling (it won’t cover it completely—this is okay).
8. Bake for 30–35 minutes (up to 40 if using a 9x13 pan), or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
9. Cool completely.
10. Drizzle with glaze if desired: whisk powdered sugar, milk, and extract together until smooth and drizzle over cooled bars.
