 FAMOUS POUND CAKE RECIPE


Ingredients:


3 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)


3 cups granulated sugar


6 large eggs


1 cup whole milk


1 cup unsalted butter (softened)


1/2 cup vegetable shortening (like Crisco)


1 tsp vanilla extract


1 tsp almond extract (optional but recommended)


1/2 tsp baking powder


1/2 tsp salt

Instructions:


1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease and flour a bundt or tube pan.



2. Cream the butter, shortening, and sugar together in a large bowl until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes).



3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.



4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.



5. Gradually add the flour mixture and milk to the creamed mixture, starting and ending with flour. Mix just until combined.



6. Stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.



7. Pour batter evenly into the prepared pan. Smooth the top.



8. Bake for about 1 hour and 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.



9. Cool in the pan for 15–20 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
