½ cup milk
1 cup shredded Swiss or mozzarella cheese (or a mix)
½ cup chopped onions (optional for extra onion flavor)

---
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, French onion soup mix, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, chopped onions (if using), and shredded cheese. Mix until just combined — don’t overwork it.
3. Shape into a loaf and place in the prepared pan.
4. Bake uncovered for 50–60 minutes, until the internal temp reaches 160°F (71°C).
5. During the last 10 minutes of baking, optional: top with French fried onions and return to the oven for a golden crunch.
6. While baking, prepare the gravy topping:
Heat the canned French onion soup in a saucepan.
Mix cornstarch and water, then stir into the soup.
Simmer until thickened. Pour over sliced meatloaf when serving.
