Best Homemade Beef Stew



The Best Homemade Beef Stew recipe for cozy nights—hearty, rich, and soul-warming:


🍲 Ingredients:


2 lbs beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes


3 tbsp olive oil (divided)


1 tsp salt


½ tsp black pepper


1 tsp paprika


2 tbsp all-purpose flour


1 large onion, chopped


3 cloves garlic, minced


3 tbsp tomato paste


4 cups beef broth


1 cup red wine (optional, or use more broth)


4 carrots, sliced


3 potatoes, peeled & cubed


2 celery stalks, sliced


2 tsp Worcestershire sauce


2 tsp Italian seasoning


1 bay leaf


1 cup frozen peas


Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

🔪 Instructions:


1. Season & Sear the Beef:

Toss beef cubes with salt, pepper, paprika, and flour. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Brown beef in batches, setting aside once seared.



2. Sauté Aromatics:

In the same pot, add 1 tbsp oil if needed. Cook onions until soft (5 minutes), then stir in garlic and tomato paste. Cook for 1–2 minutes more.



3. Deglaze:

Pour in wine (or broth) and scrape up the browned bits. Let simmer 2–3 minutes.



4. Build the Stew:

Add seared beef back in, then pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and bay leaf. Bring to a boil.



5. Simmer:

Lower heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for 1 hour.



6. Add Veggies:

Add carrots, potatoes, and celery. Simmer uncovered for 45 minutes, or until veggies and beef are tender.



7. Finish:

Stir in frozen peas and cook for another 5 minutes. Remove bay leaf, taste and adjust seasonings.



8. Serve:

Ladle into bowls, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve with crusty bread.


🥄 Tips:


For thicker stew, mash some of the potatoes at the end or mix 1 tbsp cornstarch with water and stir it in.


Leftovers taste even better the next day!
